    Buying ooths

Between the Ooths not hatching, the bad communication and/or lack thereof, along with the "heat-pack" which you agreed to buy but did not receive.... I'd pull the plug and get your money ASAP. Given that the Ooths were shipped in January (VERY cold in Chicago-area) and the heat pack was not...

    Light trap in Texas

Wow, I've never seen this. You know, until I started this mantis thing... I never knew there was such a DEEP hobby for insect collecting. I mean sure.. typical turantula and scorpion collectors but... beetles, mantids, ROACHES lol... the list is endless. Very cool little world I've found here ;)

    Potential Exotic Species

I'm wondering if the following Central American species are considered "exotic" in the USA or are these just names that are in Espanol and.. maybe just.. common? One of the species is possibly imported into Central America from another country: Acontista concinna musonia surinama...

    Peacock Mantis

Howdy! I just received 6 Peacock Mantids from the UK. Females get up to 6 inches! Wow! Males, 4 inches. These are L2/L3 nymphs. I don't see much about them here in the forums. Am I using the wrong name? Are they known as something else? Pseudempusa Pinnapavonis is the name he provided...

Manid raptor arms stuck in the upright position

AWESOME tip. It only takes a single drop of honey and you can use that drop like 20 times since you need almost nothing to make the tip stick to a fruit fly. This was very helpful, thank you! Another great tip!

    Step-By-Step: The Molting Proccess

Howdy folks. I've read here and there about the molting process. I know it is a time when a mantis is at risk of injury or death. But I have questions because I've never witnessed the "molt". I've only found dry gutless versions of my mantids hanging on the lid. Here are my questions: 1...

Manid raptor arms stuck in the upright position

Yes, I'm learning more and more as I go. For example, I started with a needle.. like.. sewing needle and that was too short, too sharp, and too hard/straight. So, I grabbed one of those twist ties you use to close up a garbage bag, stripped some of the plastic off of it but left 1/2 of the...

Manid raptor arms stuck in the upright position

Phil and Kat, thank you so much for sitting down and typing out all of your lovely advice. When I wrote this thread I felt panicky because I just adore these little dudes (and dudettes). It's so funny because I squash fruit flies and crickets like I was the evil jolly green giant of my...

Manid raptor arms stuck in the upright position

lol you *******! I uploaded the mantis photo and another photo my friend took last night at the same time. I linked the wrong file and Phil had quoted it so that even when I edited my post.. Phil's quote still had the picture. It's not a big deal... I mean... it's not a nudy picture. I had a...
