I don't think this can really be confirmed through general observations in the literature... and i believe these spices have only been *tested* with pest insects. However, you could do a small experiment and set up a long enclosure with the spices in one end... If you find your mantis pushed up...

personally i'd get them up to a month before... then you can start culturing your own making sure you have enough! I'm not sure what ooth you have but average numbers range from 20-200 nymphs... so you'll need a number greater than that if you want them all to survive - one vial/ tub might have...

by legs I guess i'm talking about the segmented sort... they have 3 pairs of normal legs, 5 pairs of pros and 1 anal proleg... but this looks like it has more sophisticated legs - possibly pro all the way along... so anyone have any idea?

Nope... but if it goes brown and hard or mouldy, you can pretty much guarantee you won't get much out of them... Depending on the temp, humidity, ventilation etc, the time will vary lots- and of course some over-winter. I'd recommend leaving a few more weeks- if you're really eager, then slice...

Hasn't happened to me... but you bring up an interesting point... Fruitfly medium I'm surprised at UNLESS it was made with a lot of yeast. Maybe the dying yeast produces the same sort of rotting smell that meat gives off - possibly attractive the houseflies... If anyone buys enough yeast to try...

bugs don't show up on x-ray :wink: I would imagine if it's small and well packed in CHECKED IN luggage, it will be safe... you're right though, hand luggage is often checked... If In doubt, buy from Yen :D - he invariably has everything you could want...
