    My Mantis Housing

Whether it's worth it depends on your housing. If the top is a pain to get on and off then yes! If not then probably not. To make a feeding hole in a plastic container I either use something sharp or drill a hole depending on thickness and again depending on thickness either cut the hole bigger...

    Inexperienced Mantid?

Perhaps the mealworm was a little on the large size? My asian did the same thing with a locust yesterday. In the end I took it out and offered a smaller locust which it took straight away.

Simply a hole that you put the food in through rather than having to take the top off every time. You block them off with a bit of sponge.

They're £12 (that's about $23) each to buy but I suspect you could make them a lot cheaper. I considered this but couldn't find any of the clear plastic. The bottom does come off, it's held on by velcro.

Feeding Gongylus gongylodes (Wandering Violin / Indian Rose)

Sorry for posting in the wrong section. No offence intended but unless you know better Rick I'm afraid that's not quite true. I've been told by a number of keepers that you can't feed them crickets as that could result in death. This is why I want to be sure that locusts are safe to use.

Feeding Gongylus gongylodes (Wandering Violin / Indian Rose)

All I really need to know is can I safely use locusts?

They're only silk plants, so I can move them around, take them out, chop them up as I see fit. :)

    My Mantis Housing

I visited a very small exotic pet shop a good few weeks back and saw some home made insect cages on a shelf with display insects in. On enquiring it turned out that the owner made them himself and also sold them. They're a very simple design and should be esay to make if you can get hold of the...

    Hello again.

Thought I better start over, joined here in 2007 but only made a few posts and haven't logged in here for a long time due to a lot happening (moving house and personal reasons) When I originally joined it was before I kept any mantids and was after info. I started out with 3 Sphodromantis...

    New Web Site

Some constructive criticism straight off the bat... your flash menu buttons. I can't even see why they are flash to be honest, they're just images. For compatibility I'd change that to non flash. Some people won't even use a flash player for a variety of reasons.

Guess I better update this! In the end I decided to stick with what I know and went for some Indian Stick insects (carausius morosus), I then got some Peruvian Fern stick insects (Oreophoetes peruanas) which unfortunately most died due to what I believe to be a contaminated food source. I then...

    Natural Environment - Plants?

In their natural environment, what plants could you expect to find Sphodromantis centralis in?

    New Housing Questions

I'm going to use fabric mesh for the top. Maybe I could stick 2 jars together, have a plant in one side and nothing the other so that they've got somewhere to hide in and somewhere to shed in?

    New Housing Questions

Hi, I'm new to keeping Mantids (normally a phasmid keeper). I have 3, 3rd instar Sphodromantis centralis nymphs currently housed in small glass jars with a stick in. I have 3 plastic jars coming either today or tomorrow and want some advice on setting them up. The jars look like this and...
