    Species ID

I think she’s a European mantis! Does she have the black dot on both raptorial arms? I’ve attached a screenshot that may help with identification.

    Northern Utah Local

Welcome to the forum! I can only see the two photos of the ooths. Do you happen to have any photos of your mantis before she passed? I think @Montana_Mantids is correct though!

My mantis is acting stange, help me!

It sounds like she’s definitely a senior citizen! As a mantis nears the end of their life, you’ll notice they’ll slow down, won’t be as active, and may act a bit “grumpy”. What are you currently feeding her? Will she drink water still? It could be stress, but it really just sounds like old age.

Thank You: From My Mantis & I

Hello all, I hope everyone who celebrates had a wonderful holiday! My almost 9 month old T sinensis, Mr. Bug Man, peacefully passed this morning. I have all of his previous exoskeleton’s from his molts, and will be doing my best to preserve and pin him. I’d like to create a shadow box with him...

    Set up advice

I guess everyone is on Christmas break, lol! Springtails are not for your mantis to eat as they are more of a clean up crew, they like to eat any mold, icky stuff, mantis poop! What size of deli cup are you thinking? I’d suggest pothos plants, they’re incredibly easy to propagate and have...

    Help

Pinky’s, no need to be aggressive! I completely agree with what @hibiscusmile said above. Your little friend looks like a cricket may have decided to snack on him. I am very sorry you had to experience this. I understand right now you’re looking for answers as to what is going on and how to fix...

    Safe set up for molting

Forgetting how to mantis & the mantis safety net, LOL! It’s like you can read my previous thoughts. You’re doing AWESOME having mesh at the top. The nerve plant crash mat suggestion is 10/10, wish I would’ve thought of that! To clarify, it’s not metal mesh right? I found that a layer of shelf...

    Is my mantis dying?

I’m sorry for your loss. The good news is that you have a chance to carry on her legacy this spring with her ooths! Sending my best wishes.

    My Mantis Dreams Came True!

Hello! For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve been trying to get an orchid mantis for almost a year (yep, Canada 🙄). They’re legal to own as per government websites in case anyone wants to comment on that. I am now the extremely proud momma of SIX orchid babies (I3)! Two girls, four boys! To...

    New Mantis Mom

I am also a first time mantis mom and I have an adult male named Mr. Bug Man (he’s 8 months old now)!!! How old is your girl? Not sure if you’d like suggestions/tips, here’s one anyways from one first time mantis momma to another! One thing I learnt about T Sinensis is keep an eye out for a...

How much do you feed your Chinese Mantis?

I have a Chinese Mantis too! He is 7 (almost 8!!!!!) months old and is an adult. When he was subadult, I would feed him a giant grasshopper every 2-3 days. Good call on the crickets, I’ve heard nothing but bad things about crickets. I’d suggest avoiding waxworms as a regular diet, they don’t...

    Gnats… I need help

I second this! More info is needed for anyone to be able to provide you with any help or assistance. I found springtails to be beneficial for reducing fungus gnats in my case. They eat all the icky gross stuff that fungus gnats also like to eat.

    Molting (Alien?) Pics!

I took some cool pics of my bug son (Mr. Bug Man) during his pre-adult molt and wanted to share them with you all! I’m aware wire mesh is bad but I had him in there for less than an hour (new enclosure at the time) while I was cutting up fabric mesh to replace it, of course that’s when he...
