How much honey can a mantis handle?

Does anyone have any advice on how much/how often one should feed their mantids honey? I ask this because I just had a little bit of a scary experience. I must have had some honey residue on my fingers (I'd made a sandwich earlier and had decided to give my crippled limbata some honey while the...

    This... Has been disappointing

Well. I just have to say this. I have had some horrible luck these last couple of weeks. Let me list the deaths in chronological order. Adult male limbata (probably the female near him plus his inability to mate drove him crazy) Sub female pictipennis (unknown) Female orientalis (mismolt)...

    Inter-mantis species mating?

I was just wondering if you could get two mantids from the same subspecies, but different species to mate (ex. creo pictipennis and creo nebulosos) and whether or not anything would come of it. Has anyone tried this, and if so what came of it?

    Rarest mantis?

So I asked cha cha what the rarest mantis in North America was... They said apteromantis aptera. Seems like a reasonable answer, however when I asked why was the rarest in the world, they kept giving me facts about sea stars, echinoderms and rays. So is there a known or agreed on rarest species...

    Dying randomly?

My little sister caught her first mantis (stagmomantis sp.) about three weeks ago. Today he was found at the bottom of the container with his legs pulled close together in that dead bug position, but is still alive. I myself am wondering about this, because i am often plagued by this unknown...

    Black widows anyone?

Well recently there have been a lot of black widows around the house. As they are the only type of spider I truly hate, they often die. So today I came home from vacay to find an egg sack where the fattest one used to hide. My first reaction was to kill it, but since I know there are people here...

    Brunneria borealis

My brunneria borealis nymphs won't eat. Is it because I'm giving them melanogaster fruitflies? I spray them once or twice a day. Anyone have any idea?
