The picture was never to find the sex, just to show the actual mantis. Are they ever identified through the crown only? I'll try and get a good picture after, mine just molted.

Just received my first D. truncata that was listed as an L3 unsexed. Now the guy I traded with said it's a male? Kind of a slap in the face to be honest. Is there any way to be really sure it's a male at this stage? 

It's super hard for her to move, I'm not too sure if she's healthy or happy.  :(

Is this a common problem? Could it be prevented? I feel like a bad owner. I did everything I could. Any idea why her outer wings are a brownish color while the rest of her body is green? 

They look fluffy and the outer wing is still tan.

How long does it take for a ghost mantis to enclose its wings? I saw that it molted when I came home at 5:50 pm. The wings still aren't in yet and it's 11:08 pm. 

Are house flies suitable for an L5 ghost mantis? Or does she need blue bottle flies? If not, when will she need blue bottle flies? 

Crushed the heck out of a cricket (felt bad about it) and offered it to the mantis like @crabbypatty said. She started to eat it immediately. Very thankful for the help; the mantis is my favorite in my invertebrate collection so far. I can't afford to lose her!

My L4 ghost mantis hasn't eaten since Sunday. It is now Friday and I'm starting to get nervous. I ran out of fly pupae but just got some on Tuesday. They're with me waiting to hatch. In the mean time I tried offering my mantis crickets but it isn't interested. How many more days until the pupae...

How many house flies should my L4 ghost mantis be consuming in a week?

Doesn't work. The flies just get their wings trapped in the beetle jelly and the misted water too. 

Could house flies survive on beetle jelly and regular mists every day?
