If I recall correctly, the screen just needs to be replaced with window mesh. The  screens that come with it can cause damage to the tarsi. Otherwise they seem like pretty good enclosures. I'll probably end up buying one myself sometime.

Where do you all get your fruit fly pupae? I'm going to start my own culture but don't see where I can find the pupae for d. hydei. Do I have to buy a premade culture and use those flies instead?

I've been raising mantises for a few months and I feed all of mine until they are nice and plump and they've molted without issues. They probably could survive on one a day, but that seems a little harsh :s Just keep them nice and fat for good measure like Digger said.

I'd definitely recommend more than 1 fruit fly a day! Eyeball it, feed her until she's nice and plump :)
