Hello people, loving the new forum? Anyway what is the biggest mantis species? I think we've all thought about it, I certainly have and my mind won't rest until I find out!! Sure allot are "one of the biggest" but what is the biggest?

thanks

I stink with the scientific names for Mantids, but I think the general concensus is (and I'm a newbie, too, so don't take this as gospel) is that the genus that begins with an "H" (Giant Asian and Giant Indian I think are in this genus) has the largest ones.

Try the search feature - I know this has been discussed before....

The biggest species are Ischnomantis gigas and two Toxodera species (16-17 cm).

The bulkiest ones may be Rhombodera laticollis and Rh. fratricida.

The largest available in culture at moment are Idolomantis diabolica (10-12,5 cm), Plistospilota guineensis (11-12 cm) and Solygia sulcatifrons (14 cm). Body size is measured without wings.

Regards,

Christian
