Hey all,

I recently found a dying Chinese Mantid in my butterfly bush as I was trimming it for the winter. I took her in and gave her a new home. I think she is with Ootheca lol, she hasn't laid it yet and might not I'm no expect by any means. I have had nymphs before but as pets and I cannot possibly raise the 100 or more babies she will have. Should I just put the Ootheca outside for diapause and let the babies go in spring when they hatch? Does anyone want this Ootheca to raise themselves when she lays it, please let me know if you do.

If she lays a ootheca then yeah you can diapause it outside... then it would hatch when the weather turns right

You could attach it back to the butterfly bush so you can check on the babies easily in the spring. :)   And then choose at that point if you want to take any in to raise.

hy Marrisa  what were the indications that she was dying ?

If she is that close to death laying an ooth , which takes one to two hours may be out of the equation.

Good luck , I am optimistic.........  S
