Couldn't be any easier. Witnessed the female possibly releasing pheremones as some think and decided to pair her with a male even though she has only been adult for ten days. Male jumped right on and they were connected within seconds. Probably one of the easiest matings i've ever had. No fuss at all.

i had less days then that on my females being adults but i had three females and the last 2 out of three females were more fussier but i managed to breed them days apart and one female missed a piece of her back leg and she already gave me 2 small ooths today while the other one had lost a raptorial arm but mating was still flawless!

Left them overnight in a 32 oz cup since I have two males. Both were fine this morning. So far I have enjoyed this species.

i think when the female i think does like something with her back end like it looks as if she sprays or something and nothing comes out would be my guess

I am guessing Rick is seeing the tip of the abdomen open up and move up and down and calling it releasing pheromone.

That's what I think also, when I see my adult females do that.

Other insects do that too. It's kind of amusing to see how the male reacts to it sometimes.

I kept some silk worm moths before, and they have blatant organs that they expose when releasing pheromones.

And you can see how much time it takes for that pheromone to reach the male even if it's invisible.

The male would just be very calm before, and when it reaches it gets extremely jittery and excited and starts fluttering right to the source. Almost looks like he's spazzing out.

Sometimes I have to put the male mantis' enclosures waaaay away from the female's because the pheromone reaches it, and the males start going crazy(even if they are in separate containers).

That is why I said "as some people say". That is what she was doing. I've heard others say that's what it is but I am not so sure. I figured if it was then I should try to mate them. It worked either way.

I've som fo my mantids doing that but, I'd never thought that they were releasing pheromoes, good to know:D
