So I'm looking to get an ooth for a new species....but I can't decide which one to persue!

I haven't done that many species yet - so you can suggest anything (even if I've kept it before, doesn't matter).

I prefer larger species (4" +), but you certainly get points for being super aggressive...or if you just look super cool (i.e. ghosts).

I really am NOT into itty bitty mantids....so no ant mantids, and I think most boxers are too small for my taste....

The only other consideration is that I don't put too much into making ideal coniditions....either they can live in their cage at room temp (seventies) durring the winter, and deal with outdoor conditions (still caged of course, and not in the sun) or they die.....I do mist, but that's the only consolation they get.

I'm toying with the idea of the giant shield...that one gets large and has a rep for being at least somewhat aggressive....but will it live without being kept in a super-contolled environment?

Any comments suggestions welcomed! Shopping for bugs is so much fun....

shields do get aggressive as well as I noticed this in the Rhombodera Longas that I have seem more so as the females are more aggressive then the males but their worth keeping or you can go with giant asians. You could also go with ghosts or violins and wide arms though I dont know much about the wide arms though. You can go with the brunners they are skinny but are decent size and there is the chinese mantis and orchids and thistles as well!

These are what species I had over the two years or so that I got in this hobby and you can take your pick as well!

chinese

creobroter species

gambian spotted eye

shields

violins

ghosts

european

giant asians

bud wing

acromantis formosana

egyptians

thistles

brunners

iris oratoria

limbatas

I am in sort of the same conundrum.

I can not decide which species I would like a ooth from or to try and maybe breed one day or have a lot of, so I decided to buy one or two of a few different species to see which ones have the most desirable traits to me.

All the species I have are so cool it would be hard to decide.

Then again it would also be very hard to try to breed lots of different species because of all their different requirements.

I think the answer to the OP's question is in the eye of the beholder. ;)

I'm just starting out and I'm buying all kinds to figure out what's my favorite. I have a Chinese, an orchid, a creobroter, a carolina, and 6 baby shields. The shields get rather large and as the others have said have a reputation of being more aggressive. Good luck!

well my favorite is the chinese mantis. and they look so cool as an adult with the green line running down the wing and they look cool even in brown.
