So last night I was at a Civil Air Patrol meeting, and we (the cadets) did a training ELT search. An ELT is a little radio transmitter that a plane has on it in case it crashes or something like that. So we have this big set of metal antennae (L-per) for finding it. We meet by Werspahn lake in Omaha so there's lots of stuff like trees and tall grass, just lots of bug habitat. So after we found what direction the signal was coming from, we did a line search in that direction, and this little brown male Chinese mantis, maybe L6, climbs onto my hand and just stays on my BDU's the whole time (Which I obviously had no problem with) and stays on until we find the ELT and get back to the building. So I brought him home and put him in a temporary pop-up net cage with some branches. I'm very sure it's a male Chinese, since it had a long, straight abdomen and the stripes on the face, plus like nine abdomen segments.
