Does anybody know where to buy locusts or another alternitive, how to raise and breed regular grasshoppers?

Although i cant advise you where to buy them i will advise cockroaches as an alternative to locusts.

They can be bred very fast and in numbers, some will climb glass and present themselves well to a mantis high up and others do not climb glass if your worried about escapees. Some are quite heavy and meaty where as other species are lighter and faster.

Some species i find useful as feeders are:

Blaptica dubia no common name im aware of http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bandung/roaches/dubiacare.html

Nauphoeta cinerea Lobster roach http://www.nyworms.com/lobsroachcare.htm Glass climber.

Blatta lateralis Turkishstan roach or red runner http://www.nyworms.com/turkistancare.htm

There are more sp you can use BUT these are easier to find and fast breeding.

These will easily bulk your female mantids up, if you use a large species you can still use smaller/small nymphs for your smaller mantid nymphs :)
