Orin, Tonkinbolus IS an accepted millipede genus with 2 known species.
Who did you find who told you Tonkinbolus is invalid? I said it's probably the wrong name for the wrong species (quite a different thing).

AGB has nothing to do with the scientific name.

Good catch there Orin! Case of thinking one thing and typing another. I meant "A. gigas" rather then "AGB". I intend to continue to call the critter A. gigas because that name is so well known and commonly used.

I got a copy of "Millipedes" by Shura Sigling for Christmas! Is this the book you carried? Page 176-177 has a nice write-up of Tonkinbolus caudulanus. I think that might the species I have. Its the right size, shape, color, habits, and distribution. It also lists Apeuthes sp as a synonym. I am still trying to dig up information on those 3 known species of Apeuthes.

Yep, I have some copies of that book. You know according to that book millipedes have a thorax and an abdomen.

Yes, I have found a couple other gaffs as well. I wonder how much is due to the translator and how much is mistakes in the original text. It does list N. annularis as a synonym of N. americanus. So the taxonomy may reflect what was known at the time of the original German text publication date. Certainly no updates were mentioned in the intro.

But it does have some beautiful specimens shown. I'd love to get a hold of Odontostreptus sp 2 and Sechelleptus pyrhozonus! Let me know if you manage to get some of those.
