Sometimes I wonder what goes on inside their tiny itty bitty bug brains. Tinkerbell has spent the last couple hours obsessively staring at the end of my Wacom pen that is sitting in its stand an inch from her. I think she is convinced it is something edible. If you move it, her head whips around to follow it and she gets that eager, I'm totally thinking about striking, lean to her stance. Is it the glare, the sleek design, or is she just admiring her own reflection? Anyone else find their mantises utterly perplexing at times?

I had boxers for a while, and they would continually do their "row the boat" thing and walk the entire encloure obessively. It's a really silly behavior.

They'd play chicken with eah other (and other species) and just move right towards whatever was in the encloure - like bullies. But they did this no matter how big the other guy was. Tiny little boxer would walk right up to adult Orchids and Gongy's and subb adult Idolos, and give em the "row". Pretty funny.

My popa spurca obsessively watched her Ghost neighbor. She hasn't eaten for a long time, so I was worried that maybe she was nervous about him. I moved her away from all my other mantids a few days ago and she's taken to watching her cricket walk around her deli cup now.

I recently sold an adult mio to a friend of mine, and he filmed her attacking the mouse pointer on his laptop. It was breaking my heart to see her strike at it again and again. She just wanted some food so badly... :(

Did you think about super gluing tiny ores to their claws and sticking them in a rowboat? Their row walk sounds hilarious.@Hibiscus- You're just a big softy. They know they can wrap you around their little claws if they give you the mantis eyed beg face. :tt2:

@Deby- I'm also guilty of teasing with the mouse pointer. :shifty:

Somewhere I saw a video of a mantis attacking the animated fly in Rick's avatar (or signature or whatever). I thought I might use that one day to stimulate appetities.

@ Deby - yeah. The Popas are wierd sometimes. I have seven - six of them happily eat crickets...but I had one not eating, and just getting thinner & thinner. I put a moth in there and it was gone lickity split.

The darn fusspot just doesn't like crickets! it would rather starve! Go figure....it just like my older daughter... :D (I mean starving rather than eating something she doesn't like....not that I try to feed her crickets....though, actually, I have...there's a story there).

I tried giving her a moth; no luck. I tried giving her a box elder bug; no luck. I tried hand-feeding; no luck. The good news is that she FINALLY ate a cricket yesterday. I guess she's just a shy eater. OR she was just interested in my Ghost for food!
