Well it is Ooth laying time and one my females has simply stopped eating Hoppers. She will now only eat feeders if they are primarily flyers like Flies, Moths, and Butterflies. It's as if she just turned off the switch, at times she will grab and disable them and simply drop them. I didn't feed her for a 1 1/2 days then placed a hopper in with her. She looked at it, it proceed to walk literally between her legs and she simply let it pass. I placed a couple of flies with her and she instantly caught and devoured them.

Normal??? Is this just a part of the quirky world of Mantids?

Sounds like just normal. I've noticed different "moods" in the eating of some of mine too. Sometimes mine have been more cautious about eating different things and sometimes the same one is aggressive towards everything. Sometimes I've even noticed a variance in the same species. Some of my c. nebulosus won't eat roaches and some will. Just quirks! I love 'em!
