Anyone know what species this orchid is? I just picked it up at Lowes a few years ago. Been very hardy ever since.
Not lady's slipper. I had those before. I'm pretty sure it's a phalaenopsis of some sort.is it just a regulay moth orchid, or maybe lady slippers
p.s. i barely saw the mantis on there
She has fake orchids in her container, but as far as I know(I bought her recently) this is the first time she's been on a real orchid. She really seems to like it.There is a member, RevWillie that is an expert in Orchids. He could tell you what species of Phaleanopsis it is. They do have bloom staying power if taken care of for sure. I have one that is more while throughout and when I had some Orchid mantids, they looked good hanging out on the flowers.
When you cut them back, if you do it at a node, a new flower stem will grow.yeah cool shot man. no idea about flowers though. are you ever supposed to cut them back?
This is the easiest plant I've ever kept. I just put a few cubes of ice in it every 4 days. I've had to replant it once. That's it.Mime, the colors of your Orchid mantis do match the phalaenopsis orchid plant. The Orchids I grew used to thrive until I started to raise mantids. Now I don't give them the attention they deserve.
Well, I had over 40 of them a few years ago. They thrived in the bathroom with the extra humidity and light from a window. I kept them around the jacuzzi tub. The phalaenopsis is probably the easiest, but I raised others, too. Nowadays they just don't get watered when they need it. There is always a mantis that needs to be fed. I do have a couple that are blooming now, but I usually had around 20 - 25 that would bloom around Christmas and would last into the spring. This is the easiest plant I've ever kept.
