quick question

This has probably been asked before, but can you feed them fireflies, or would the bioluminescent chemicals hurt them?

I don't know, I dont see why it would hurt them, hummm, a glowing mantis!

I saw a wildlife programme were a north american mantis speicies was pigging out on fireflys it just rejected the bio-luminescent parts on the end of the abdomen

Just give it a try. If they can't/won't eat it they will drop it. How do you think they manage these things in the wild?
