How obvious is the orange abdomenal spot on your mantids? Mine have it, but very hard to see. The spot is more like a tiny dot about the size of a period and VERY faint. Is that normal for the majority of the I. oritoria you see out your way?

Yes, all of my females have mated at least twice and have produced at least one ooth each. I am keeping a lone female isolated and will not mate her as I will be testing parthenogenesis first hand.

It's very obvious. During the first instar stages it is hard to see as the colors do not contrast very well, but as they get older it is easily spotted and quite large. Curious that you describe yours having a tiny one.
