This is going to be fun. My daughter is doing a short reading to her second grade class....and they invite the parents - it's a "biography" based on someone in the family they "interview." Of course, she had to interview me.

She asked if I could bring in my matids & my plants for a short show& tell afterwards (because one of the bits in the biography is how I like people think I have cool stuff - which I of course now need to share with her class). It's going to be carnivore heaven!

that sounds like so much fun...I would love to show a bunch of kids my bugs :D they are so intrigued by it all.............but they are in 2nd grade be careful :D

That is a great opportunity to both please your daughter, but to be an ambassador for insect keeping in general and mantids more specifically. Good luck with that!

Are you going to bring feeders to show them in action? I could just hear the oohs and ahhhs. Probably some squeals of excitement, too. Not knowing to be happy or scared. :D

I brought in my old Creo to a presentation. She at all these crix, all these girls were yelling and begging to leave
...and I bet they were the ones that couldn't stop watching, right? We all "'dost protest toooo much" when we're interested and to be seen as interested by others makes us feel wrong. Cheer for the mantis! You may be a minority, but it's what you want.

Hah! The only person who was "oohing and ahhing" was my friend this one hot girl was screaming and rolling on the ground! ;)

When I was younger I brought in some mantises for show in tell. I think it was 2nd grade too. I don't remember people freaking out. Then again I started a whole bug fad in my girl scout troup so maybe you guys just don't know how to sell them properly. ;)

I once did a show and tell too and brought a mantis with me. Everyone was able to hold the enclosure and pass it through the class with some feminine exceptions. :D

However, when i decided to open the enclosure for a better view, both boys and girls (again, with very few exceptions) decided to sit on the opposite corner, teacher included, lol

I bring my mantids to my high school every now and again for presentations/research papers, plus I got them a class mantis pet!

Now I get to study/work next to her every day! :)

The principal calls me the school's entomologist. :stuart:

Every one seems to think my bugs are cute, they all like how the mantises turn their little heads and watch them.
