Avics can be very hard to keep alive when young...I personally have had very bad luck with them in the past...they are very prone to having bad molts if the humidity is not high enough and they can die if they do not get enough air circulation.

If you get a juvenile/adult specimen, they typically fare pretty well. As far as keeping them communally, some people have done it with A. avicularia with some success, but the fact is that all tarantulas are solitary creatures and housing more than one in an enclosure is a risk. I personally would not try it. 8)

 
Glad someone else agrees that the avics are hard... worth it in the end, but still hard :) - personally though, I prefer the less hairy T's - avics tend to be fuzzy.
