If Mega Mantids are aggressive then I think almost certainly a Mega Mantis would win fighting all or most mantids because they are big but might not be the strongest.

No one measures antennae  It is from head to end of abdomen.
Yep, that is usually how most people measure mantids.

LOL they only get to 4.5" at MOST!
The 2 male Megas I had were close to 4.5" so I would think a female could clock in at 5" plus no problem, but they're not that strong or aggressive by any means, a large 3.5" budwing female would dominate one every day of the week!

He's a pic of a Plistospilota guineensis shaking in his boot's when he spots a male Idolo coming his way, notice the raptor size difference!

A large budwing female gets my vote on strength and speed of strike, she would kill and eat most mantis much bigger than her! ;)

Wide arm or budwing are the most aggressive I've HEARD. But that doesn't always correlate to the "toughest". I think that automatically goes to the mantis that has a mix of good size and strong forearms. I've seen small euros with strong forearms take on larger Iris oratorias who have smaller forearms.

And yes, you never measure antennae. It's head to abdomen and if you want to get specific, head to thorax because the abdomen can fluctuate depending on the conditions of the mantis, head to thorax remains constant throughout an instar.

P.S, take note of my "subtle" ploy to obtain budwings and wide arms. :innocent:

dam those raptors are freaking huge on that idolo mantis in that pic! maybe we should make a top five list strongest overall fighter and pound for pound. Dam all these species ive never even heard of i want them lol.

My budwing is an MMA fighter and can bench press 450lb. Just kidding. She is VERY aggressive. And she is always stalking my other mantids in the next enclosure. When she strikes she hits the ground and side of enclosure so hard I'm afraid she is going to break an arm. Loud thud. And I've seen her shake the heck out of prey before digging in if they wiggle to much. It's so funny.

My little 3 inch Popa female would dominate all others! I am afraid to take her out with the 4.5 inch majusculas because she would eat them!

Idolos don't eat big prey though, they r kinda sissies lol

My mantises do this a lot lol

My female popa is a little undr 3 inches but chewed right through a male dubia...

Put one of those popa's in a 80oz deli with a female budwing and see what happens to pops, if you dare, Haha...

Lol :)

I bet a bleph can take on a budwing, my bleph gals r vicious lol
Yeah pund for pund Blephs are some of the strongest mantids I know of. Not like those wimpy Idolos and gongys :tt2:

Well, if we are going for the strength for their size, i would say adult female chinese mantids, strongest i have ever encountered

Any of the species known for eating snakes are probably the strongest. As far as prey go, snakes are about as strong as you can get and the constrictors even more so but mantises eat them. Not sure which species go for snakes, Chinese will I think.

Why is the Megamantis a desirable species? Looks plain to me.

I stand corrected about the Megamantis :) . I saw a vid of one, looked a little over 4.5 inches (adult). I saw the comment about it being 9 inches long after I watched the vid.

I agree about blephs being strong. If creos were 1.5 inches longer, they would dominate all

Pore budwing...
Well, alrighty then!!! I just happen to have a adult female budwing, so send me your best pappy and I'll show you what happens to a popa when they meet a female budwing, I hope your not to attached to the Popa, I don't want tear's, Haha! Yes that's a dare!

But it will save me some flies, lol...

A adult mega would eat a popa in less than 10 seconds as well, keep in mind I had popa before, if you never had a adult female budwing don't speak, as you don't know what they bring to the table?
