Some of my recent photos...and an old one posted again

I was planning to head north today to photograph Sharp-tailed grouse early tomorrow morning, but over a foot of snow fell on the lek where they dance, and my friend, Bill, and I decided not to go. The grouse will have to wait until I get back from North Dakota for me to make them famous. (Ha...

    Some of my mantids

Well, I dusted off my camera (literally as I used it in New Mexico last month) and photographed some of my mantids this past week. When I picked up one of the dead leaf mantids to photograph, he keeled over and played dead. I've never seen that before and had to laugh. I put it away and worked...

Links to some amazing insect macro photography

I know we have a few excellent macro photographers on the forum, but I thought I'd share a couple of links to some other insect macro work that I admire. Slovakian photographer Ondrej Pakan does some really nice work with insects with water droplets on them. I'm not sure how much if his work is...

Oblong-Winged katydid (Amblycorypha oblongifolia), Pink Morph

I'm still enjoying the katydids. They make decent pets, though they are sometimes jumpy when you take them out of the terrarium. Here's a photo of one of the males.

    My latest mantis models

Well, I hadn't photographed any of my mantises since July and decided to dust off my macro lens a couple of days ago. I received these mantises as extras as part of a trade. I only took a few photos of them, but I found out they make excellent models and am looking forward to photographing them...

    mantid_mike

Mike and I just completed a swap of adult mantises. Through no fault of our own, both of our packages were delayed. Fortunately we had happy endings, and the mantises arrived alive. Mike promptly sent me the tracking number and put a lot of effort into packing. I wouldn't hesitate to do business...

    Oblong-Winged katydid, Pink morph

Here's a portrait of an adult female. I put her on a mullein plant and had no idea she was going to eat the flowers. That is pollen on her face. I'll try a different perch next time.

    Orchid and Texicorn Ladies

I've mentioned in the past that I started photographing wild mantises in Texas, found this forum and decided to buy some mantis to photograph them. Now that I'm breeding multiple species I find little time to photograph them. The last mantis I photographed was an L1 O. dumonti nymph on May 12...

    Rhombodera cf. valida adult females

I have some surplus Rhombodera cf. valida adult females (final molt 2 - 3 weeks ago) for sale/trade. These are from Precarious' stock, and they are much larger than my adult Rhombodera cf. stalii females. They should be ready for breeding soon. They also make great pets, but they eat a lot.

    Sharing a few photos

I've had a lot of ooths hatch lately. Caring for all the mantids takes so much time and leaves little for photography. I did manage to take photos a few times in February and again this month. Blepharopsis mendica, sub adult female...She's an adult now. So far, she is the only nymph that...
