Hello everybody this is my first post here on the forums! I recently purchased 4 ghost mantid nymphs and was very distraught two arrived dead. I was wondering the proper shipping method for these as to me the packing seems very bad for a small fragile animal. To me it appears there is not enough excelsior, the giant stick and sponge are not secured and just tumble all over the place( it appears the deceased mantids were squished to death). You can see the living ones try the best they can to find secure footing....Anyway just wanted to know if this is proper shipping of mantid nymphs. This was my first purchase and I was very excited to get into the hobby but I do not want to have something like this happen again.

Nothing should ever be floating around loose in the container. Just glued down paper towel for them to grip.

I thought as much as I have received spiderlings and the proper way to ship something fragile like that is to encase it it a small padded vial so nothing can bump it around. These guys couldn't even reach the mesh on the top to hang :( .

I would use a 16 oz. cup with a sponge on the bottom and fine mesh on top, with paper towel on all sides. I would ship in a medium box filled with doll stuffing.

your not the first to have babies shipped bad, try going with a reputable breeder, ck the feedback section and we have a "sticky" about how to ship, it is good to know. sorry about your babies.

Yeah some people really have no clue. The stuff outside the container is just as important.

looks damp on the bottom and often a small insect can get stuck and drown in even the smallest amount of water, terrible shipping method and I've never received anything even close to being packed like that.

Horror! I tried working things out with the seller, who was nice and offered a refund for the two that were DOA. He was out of ghosts so I went with two spiny flower mantises. I was assured things like that have never happened before and that there would be no more objects in the container. That was not the case this time...still sad though.

The package was not padded on the sides and that is where it crimped and killed my little nymph.

Should I try to get another nymph out of this, I feel like there is a good chance it would die.

I would just ask for a refund. Post in the breeder feedback for future reference of others.
