    Lifetime Addiction

Hello!  I've been away for a year and a half or so, so if there are any oldies out there they might remember me.   I tend to have two modes, OBSESSED and disinterested, so when I kept mantids before I kept anywhere from 20 to 40 individuals of five or six species at a time, and probably a...

    Teamonger's Mantis Habitats

I love this!  My mantids are going to be permanent "desk buddies" too.  Makes boring work so much nicer.

    Skipper skipping

I got a cool shot with my new camera today and thought I'd share. Epargaryeus clarus (Silver spotted skipper)

    Yen Saw - (US)

Yen is the best. Got some A. formosana nymphs from him today, packed as always with expert care, all arrived safe & sound, with an extra one, to boot. This is I think my third shipment of mantids from him, and there's really no one I've dealt with that I'd rather buy from. Thank you!

    Davedood

I got some S. viridis and C. pictipennis babies from Dave today and they were meticulously packed. He was prepared to have them in the mail THE DAY I contacted him, but I was a little slower than he was with the emails/Paypal. :) He sent plenty of extras, too. I would definitely buy...

We were really enjoying these funny "True Facts" videos, so we were woo-hoo-ing when Ze Frank decided to do mantids. (you should check out the others if you like it) I can't remember how to embed it :/ sorry.

    Females flying?

I was under the apparently mistaken impression that most females don't fly... obviously there are exceptions. When I take out my P. wahlbergii female the last few times she has been flapping. I thought she was just exercising but last night she took off and flew :) I'm 90% sure she...

What is your current collection of mantids??

Adults: An S. viridis pair, a C. pictipennis pair, 1 H. majuscula female, 1 D. lobata male, 1 P. wahlbergii female (who I desperately want to breed.. *sigh*), 1 P. paradoxa female left, 2 I. diabolica females, P. affinis male and my female is sub, plus a colony of O. gracilis. Nymphs: 1 O...

    Mantis stable or increase.

Definitely a decline in Chinese populations in my back yard (where I have introduced them, 2 years ago, and had several ooths laid last year), but that may be due to my spending less time in my garden. We'll see what we've got out there as far as ooths when I do my garden cleanup. Also, it may...

Trying to find a mantis for my friend

Budwings are super aggressive feeders and pretty friendly too, medium size. For little guys, creos are pretty aggressive too.

    Feeding in the dark

I have the feeling that some of mine actually prefer to hunt in the dark, or at least at night.

Confession: Haven't seen a WILD mantid since the 90's

I think I have seen fewer this year than last but I introduce them in my garden. Still, both Chinese and Carolina are pretty prolific here in TN.
