Hi try using a water based paint or varnish on the mdf and leave for a while before placing any mantids in . Great enclosure but I would be tempted to blank of each division so as not to allow threat displays and potential stress to your mantids.

Same thing happened to me but I was lucky she landed on top of the foam stopper in the side of my enclosure.Think this saved her from any problems to be honest .Caught her on her back ,gave her a nudge and she was back up on her branch.

I use lighting for twelve hours then use a very dim blue light to replicate moonlight.Seems to work for me .
