I understand that gut-loaded is healthier, and more nutrient dense. . . But why is it bad when they are not gut loaded?

Oh, Tom, what does their hemolymph consist of? I'm sure enzymes and something like HCl. What bacteria do mantids normally have in their gut? Lactobacillius? Bacteriodes? Any candida?

Outside I have striped looking "silent" crickets (they don't chirp). are those the silent crickets you are talking about?

I wish I could help. I'm having the same problem trying to ID what killed my babies. Freezing actually kills most bacteria. The only way I could do it is by trying to grow something on a petri dish from my school. I hope someone else can help you!

Oh wow! Thank you. I haven't found the mites anywhere else. I'm thankful for that. Another thing I just realized is that the mantid that I tested, just ate fruit flies which are in a medium containing yeast. I wonder if that yeast is why her puke tested positive for candida. I don't know...

Tom, Sorry for your loss. Yeah, that makes sense. It is as simple as that. I just wonder why the crickets get infections so easily and what kind of infections they are exactly.

Thank you. I had no idea about the mites. I freaked at first. That's a good idea about testing the crickets. I'm not sure the best way though. I'll have to ask my professor.
