Are melanogasters too large grass mantids nymphs?

Wow. I had no idea. I thought that hibiscus had every mantid under the sun.. They seem to be prolific around here... I never could get my male to mate with her, so these ooths (5 so far) are parth...and the nymphs coming out are pretty weak... My first one died because she couldn't get her back...

I have 3 of these... The one you showed in the picture, the 12/12/18 and the nano.. I have kept my grass mantid in the nano with no trouble... and it comes with a nice background... I think I would actually prefer (if we are only talking about mantids... to buy several nanos...

    Snap! parthenogenetic grass mantid nymph!

I tired to mate the two grass mantids I had, but they were not interested in the least.... So I let him go back off into the wild to try his luck elsewhere.. Yesterday when I was cleaning my terrariums I noticed a little bug in my females home..... lo and behold, one of her ooths was...

    first chinese ooths hatch

I have plenty of cups.. I would imagine saving over 10 anyhow.... I know it varies and all, but how many weeks until 2nd molt is usually occured? And also, when would you switch to hydei flies?

    first chinese ooths hatch

So BASICALLY unless I separate each and everyone of them some cannibalism is going to occur before I set them free on the 3rd molt? I will add the flies tomorrow then....

    first chinese ooths hatch

Well I have the ooth in one of Hibiscuses' mantis nurseries with excelsior.... I have three culture of roaring melanogasters... so I think that will be enough food and space..... I just want to know when to let out the ones I am not keeping...before they start eating each other...

    first chinese ooths hatch

haha No not all, if they all survived, I would have a massive army!! I plant to keep maybe 10 past the molt where you have to divide them due to cannibalism.... Is it okay you think to release them after the 2nd or 3rd molt... When does the cannibalism start?

    attempted mating

So my male grass mantid molted, and I waited a a couple of weeks.. My female was never mated, but has laid three little ooths so far... I tried twice for a good 30 minutes to get them to mate, but neither one of them seems interested..... What should I do? Just keep trying every couple of...

    Male Grass Mantid shed

I know I probably shouldn't have, but I "introduced them" with supervision... There was no attacking on either side, and no attempt at mating.... They kind of just ignored each other... I will put them back together and see what happens in a couple of weeks.

    Bad day

That really suck! I didnt really know birds went after ooths! What kind of bird was it? I think it's best to keep them indoors I guess in a controlled environment...
