    Canada Post Suspends Operations

We do? Not the way they play hockey and drink beer! No way! They are certainly NOT pansies. Some of us DO think of them as the 51st state, thought... ** ducks for cover ** :P

    I need help

Hey Nova, I think you're over thinking this. Most mantises will be just fine if they miss a meal or two. So don't worry about in raining and not being able to find any gnats. The humidity from the rain is actually a good thing if it desides to moult now. Just chill out and wait. If it...

    Surprize nymphs

Yay! I think I've heard that these little guys can handle hydei, too (the larger FF's). They seem to have really long legs (for their size), but itty bitty bodies... I only have ony l1 nymph right now (waiting for more to hatch), so I'm using this one as a guinea pig to see what it can catch...

    fruit fly eating plant

    D. capensis is a good one. However, really any sundew or butterword will eat those little bitty flies. Butterwords tend to be a little more difficult to keep alive, though, so stick with the sundew (pun intended). In addition to capensis, you can try binata, fillaformis, rotundifolia...

Just completed a trade with this member. Now, I agreed to a one - for trade on ooths.... Being a smarty pants, I put in two ooths. But AE was a BIGGER smarty pants and put in SIX. So, needless to say, I am very pleased! (appologies if a thread for AE exists already - I did a search, but...

have one Ghost ooth to trade

Hi all, I have one ghost ooth to trade. Two ooths from this female have hatched of me already. The next one in line is up for trade (assuming this happens fast - should hatch within two weeks I think). I prefer to trade for other ooths, because there is never a 100% guarantee on hatching, so...

Successfull ooth hatch! YAY baby ghosts!

Hey Rich, I keep them as warm as I can (they sit in a large jug on top of my tank light....so they are generally around 85 days, but nights have been cool when the light was off). As for humidy, I moisten the substrate, and then it's between 90 and 100% for a few days until the substrate dries...

Successfull ooth hatch! YAY baby ghosts!

Well, after much anxious waiting, I had a successful hatching of about 10 little ghosts yesterday! Very happy indeed! The interesting thing is, this is the SECOND ooth after the mating. The ooth she laid immediately following the mating still has not hatched! Isn't that odd? Well, anyway...

need a male P. spurca or two

As the heading suggests, I need at least one male P spurca. I have three adult females (one has been adult for about two weeks, the others two days). I have one more sub-adult, but I fear also a female....not sure...but nevertheless, this one has been lagging substantially behind the others in...

    Welcome to mantisland (pic heavy)

Hey Rick, In NC, sure, you could do that. Most lowland tropicals do very well in NC during the "growing season." You would just have to moderate the sunlight to accomodate whatever orchids you want in there....that would be the real issue. Some orchids may like strong sun, while other will...

    Hey! You can't sell mantids!

LMAO! Gotta love it when you give people "Holy Macrel! WHATAREYOUTALKINGABOUT?!?" panic. Oh, I don't need to know your Mom....I can just imagine.

    Welcome to mantisland (pic heavy)

Not sure you do have more than one....I see one spent ooth in there. That ooth could have spawned all of them! Looks like a S. carolina ooth to me.... Edit: Just noticed your location is South Africa... So perhaps my ID is just a wee tad off.
