Looking to get into breeding. Any tips or things I should consider when getting started?

Finally coming back to this community after several years. I've been interested in breeding since I first got into the hobby, but as a teen at the time living at home, it wasn't really an option. I'm in a good spot now where I'm able to get a decent setup going, so I figure why wait! The first...

I think a cricket got to her while she was molting, and she couldn't escape in time. What should I do?

and here I'd thought I'd mastered sexing nymphs- I didn't even think to check again. That's two major yet entirely avoidable mistakes. 😕 Thanks for your input, I suspected euthanasia was what was needed.

I think a cricket got to her while she was molting, and she couldn't escape in time. What should I do?

can't attach pictures at the moment, I'll add some when I can. I've been feeding crickets not much larger than pinheads since they were the only available prey item she was willing to take- this molt would've been the one where she could take down small mealworms without my help, or I would've...

I think a cricket got to her while she was molting, and she couldn't escape in time. What should I do?

I have a now adult female ghost mantis. The other day, I threw in several small crickets for her to pick off slowly as usual, since she's never been receptive to tong feeding. When I checked on her just now, though, I see this was probably a huge mistake. She's currently on the lid of her cup...

Do Mantis do Good and Molt Okay in Critter Keepers?

I also kept my sphodromantis lineola male in a critter keeper for a brief time and he molted into an adult no issues. I put a paper towel under the lid as a better gripping surface and included a few twigs held up by tension. You can definitely keep crickets in them- they make special critter...

    Mantis nibbling me?

It can be fun to put a bit of water in your hand and let the mantis drink that way- it's both a good way to monitor fluid intake and to bond with your bug :)

    [SOLD] Madagascar hisser colony

North Carolina, USA. I have a modest colony with 4 adults (3F 1M) and dozens of new nymphs- I can count them if requested. Though I had anticipated nymphs eventually, both my Plan A and Plan B for giving them away fell through. The friends I had anticipated would take some are no longer able to...

    My Mantids

    Mantisplace

I purchased my two lineola males from her not too long ago. I had actually ordered a different species, but after weeks of waiting, I emailed her. Apparently, my order had been forgotten about or something :// However, my emails were responded to quickly and I received two surprise mantids...

    homemade popsicle stick fixtures?

thanks everyone! Lineolas don't need particularly high humidity. I mist the sides of their homes about once a week and they do just fine. I bought an interesting piece of driftwood to put on the mismolted mantis side, which he seems to enjoy, but I probably will put a couple ramps in for him so...

    homemade popsicle stick fixtures?

I'm suddenly becoming so active again, lololol So my last post was about how my (now adult) lineola male mismolted, and how one back leg is now bent completely backward at the knee. He seems to be getting used to it, but I was thinking of ways to help make life easier for him when I move him...

    Bent leg following mismolt

I wasn't really planning on amputating, I guess it's good he can just take care of it on his own terms. Thanks!!

    Bent leg following mismolt

It’s not a horrible suggestion!! If it was so awful we wouldn’t amputate human limbs, would we :PP  hopefully by keeping his upcoming enclosure sparsely decorated he can get by as it is... he and his brother do have one thing in common- they’re rather sedentary even for mantids 🤔 they always...

    Bent leg following mismolt

Here’s an image of the leg! I’m not sure if he’d even let me amputate it, he’s so skittish... not that I’d even know how 😕 it seems most of his trouble is coming from him trying to use his leg like normal, rather than just ignoring it and focusing his strength on his healthy limbs

    Bent leg following mismolt

Hello!! I posted here not too long ago asking abt some housing suggestions for my two lineolas. Well, this morning (it’s now late at night) I woke up to see my other lineola male had molted to an adult... poorly. He had decided to molt with one of his legs pressed right up against the side of...

    Dividing a tank?

geez louise!!! You're all right, I hadn't thought too hard when I mentioned tape! I am planning to make it out of cardboard; lineolas don't need to be super humid so I think I'll be alright. Maybe a tight layer of cellophane, sealed underneath with the glue? Hot glue sounds like a much better...

    Dividing a tank?

its a 10g tank my hamster was in a while ago (he outgrew it pretty quick). I'm just realizing I don't have any silicone... I'm gonna assume elmer's won't cut it? 😕 would a border of duct tape suffice for the bottom and sides, and would just keeping it flush with the lid work? I don't think...

    Dividing a tank?

Hello!! Been a while since I posted here. I currently have two male sphodromantis lineola (one adult and one subadult). Since I was anticipating one to be a female, I have one large and one small enclosure on standby. However, since they’re both male, it seems a bit silly to have one huge tank...
