What instar is this Carolina mantis at?

I don't have any experience with this species, but I would guess it's at least L3, but probably L4. I am new to mantids so don't take my guess as truth.

My nymphs just had their first molt!

Thanks, I've heard that too, but it was the only ooth I could find for sale at the time. I have been babying them since they hatched. I fed them every day for the first week, and misted every other day. Now I am going to move to feeding every other day, and only mist when there are no water...

My nymphs just had their first molt!

I recently had my first chinese mantis ooth (purchased not bred) hatch. I managed to get about 86 nymphs. A few died for unknown reasons, but 78of them made it through their first molt with only five mismolts that needed to be culled. I am pretty proud, and i am really enjoying the challenge.

How did YOU get into mantids?

I always loved orchid mantids, but I didn't know you could buy them. I went into a pet shop to buy some mice, and saw a Indian flower mantis. I said, "that's cool, but I wish I could get an orchid mantis." Turns out they had them! I told them I would be back on pay day. I came back three days...

Last night I noticed my shield mantis molting. She was hanging from a popsicle stick that I hot glued to the top of her cup. Everything went fine and she completed her molt without incident. Where was the near disaster you ask? Well, I looked in today and the popsicle stick fell! That could have...

    Hey there everybody!

I have just caught the bug. No, not a mantis. Well, yes a mantis, but I didn't catch it. Anyways, I recently bought an orchid mantis and I am hooked. I was so happy with how she's doing I had to go back and get a shield, and a Chinese mantis. I would love to try my hand at breeding the Chinese...

How soon can I feed after a molt?

My orchid mantis just molted about 16 hours ago, at about midnight. When should I start feeding agian? She's been refusing food for about three days so I assume she's hungry. I'm feeding fruit flies.
