My experience collecting in Hong Kong and Malaysia

This thread was incredible. Yen, I believe you should make a thread, almost as a tutorial, on how to do this collecting! Many people spend money on holidays sightseeing and sitting on a beach (both things I do, and have done in Malaysia) - but I have never collected bugs, something I really...

    ultimate mantid terrarium

That "dream" could come true with about £60 haha! I was imagining a "dream" more on the scale of a garden sized tropical greenhouse with lots of different species in different areas! A bit like tropical world up here in yorkshire, with lots of free ranging bugs and birds etc!

    ooth for exchange

lol @ the questions... He basically got a transparent film (i.e. OHT//transparent acetate) and pressed it on the ventral side of the mantid whilst it lay on its dorsal side. A picture was taken, then the acetate can be taken off and the mantid will crawl around again. It would do it no...

my mate says hes getting 300 mantis from giant Asian ooth..1 ooth..is he lying ?

300 or so is probably a slight exaggeration, they do hatch hundreds though, and around the 200 mark is common. 300 or so is again possible, but probs less common.

    world's largest praying mantis

I just typed a huge reply and internet explorer conked out when I opened a new tab ¬_¬ - anyway, just to say that your first quote is not "fact" at all in my opinion. I'm pretty sure that fact against hundreds of species has led to be common knowledge in other areas, and pure wrong in others...

    world's largest praying mantis

To be honest, a mantis at 18" is probably not as hard to believe as you'd imagine. There is a whole host of arthropods and other inverts that reach a far greater mass than a mantis at 18" (as stated probably a stick-mimic type or grass) would reach. Beetles are the heaviest supposedly, but I...

uk mantis keepers..32 oz deli cups in the uk with lid?where can i buy them?

fridge mate. I transfer a load of flies to a smaller pot, sometimes even put ice at the bottom of the tub. Then using tweezers on the wings it's simple pick and put into the chute and whoopdeedoo they're in. Flightless fruitflies are definately the way to go!

HELP!!!!! my ooth hatched in my bethroom!!

Seeing as fruitflies roam my room like mad anyway, just leave them out and open a few fruitfly cultures haha! Eventually the better hunters will be left and you can catch them eventually! Leave an energy saver lamp on in the middle of your room at night and they should move to it then you can...

    Fruit Fly mash

Careful how long you cook them for etc. Heat denatures and destroys proteins/vitamins/enzymes etc. Which although can be "eaten" will significantly reduce nutritional content!

uk mantis keepers..32 oz deli cups in the uk with lid?where can i buy them?

I do this way all the time, well except i push through a small 1" section of airline pipe and put fruitflies down it, but in general i mean, how would you put a nymph in there and cover it fast enough?! These guys for some reason just want to stay on my arms and don't like the cups! It just...
