I ordered a lot of 8 unicorn nymphs last week and was extremely happy with the transaction. I had originally requested that we hold them until the weather was more suitable, and then realised it would be quite hot for the following week (over 90 each day). PH was able to send them same-day for...

    Mvalenz

I purchased a budwing ootheca from Mike last week which arrived yesterday. He was very communicative and enthusiastic throughout our discussions and he was extremely prompt in mailing it out (same day as payment!). The ooth arrived yesterday without any damage to the box (remarkable for the...

    Doctor Marcus' Photo Thread

I've been really busy lately, and have seriously fallen behind in photo taking and posting. I really want to make up for it some time soon. In the meantime, since it was a gorgeous day here in Maryland (80ºF thereabouts, thank god!) I took out Rochelle and Nick, my two favourite Stagmomantis...

    Doctor Marcus' Photo Thread

Chartreuse is the most lively mismolt I've ever had. I hope he continues to be so, and makes it to adulthood, unlike his late girlfriend Candy. Chartreuse was originally... charteuse. When he turned brown, though, his eyes stayed green. Quite lovely. And there we are! I'm trying to do a...

    Doctor Marcus' Photo Thread

My first nymph-to-adult raised female! A lovely green and yellow m. paykullii named Lena. According to my fiancée, she's a beauty queen. Hello there 8> The little 'expansion' spots are yellow, body pale green and wings bright, vibrant green. I love her colouration. Red Eyes lives...

    Doctor Marcus' Photo Thread

I wanted to start fresh with a new photo thread to-day! I've been experimenting with different things and finally have some I think are worth showing off. I have a couple photos of all the species I'm currently housing, though not all of the stages. Good variety to start things off...

Cause of death and terrible smell

Would old age account for the front feet breaking off as well? And the claw turning black at the end?

Cause of death and terrible smell

Yeah, I was guessing it was some sort of infection, though really I was at a loss what to do with her when she gnawed the rest of them off too. I did a little sniffing around and all I could really find is that they chew them off if there's something wrong. There was over a month between the...

Cause of death and terrible smell

Unlike Minnie, the Carolina girl I lost a few weeks back, her counterpart Athena was rather lively until the last 12 hours or so. I returned home from work on Thursday to find her handing out near the bottom of her tank as she had been doing for some time. Thinking of how Minnie went, I pulled...

Oh how I want it to hatch!!!

Ahh, I've had a bunch of wild-caught Carolina ooths laid, starting on October 24th and I'm still waiting too. I'd more or less decided they weren't going to hatch, but if you guys are still hanging on, I guess I'll have to hang on too, haha!

    Zoe's First Nymphs

I'm so jealous, I got mine from fatal_mantis too and none have molted yet, though my hatch-out was great. And just to let you know, around some of the Metalocalypse communities, there's a legend of pet mishaps for similarly named critters. Nothing good comes of naming animals after the...

    fatal_mantis

Communication was excellent, accommodations were made without hesitation, turn-around time was fast and product arrived packed well and completely intact. Ooth hatched with satisfactory numbers after a short wait. Fatal_mantis offered to send nymphs in the event it did not, which was...

Laying one on top of the other

Haha, yeah, maybe. Then again, I bought some off of lemmiwinks not too long ago, so there might be someone else interested like I was. If not, I keep them until spring and release them around here. Native species are good for that, at least.

Laying one on top of the other

Yeah, I considered that, but I thought there would be less damage if I followed along the threads and wiggled it free. I thought if I cut it parallel, I would end up exposing a whole row of eggs rather than just a few per slice. Either way, I suppose there's plenty to go around, even with the...

Laying one on top of the other

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I was as slow and gentle as I could be, but that one portion was through the screen about half a centimetre. Lucky for me these have high hatch rates, right? I'll be reattaching them to a new container shortly. Thanks everyone for the info/help.

Laying one on top of the other

Okay, Phil, I trust you on this, haha. I carefully followed the lines of the screen with a knife and worked it free with my fingers. The fresher one wasn't nearly as well embedded and came off really easily with relatively no damage. The older one had a tougher time, especially right in the...

Laying one on top of the other

It's not so much on the lid that has me shaking my head, it's in the lid. The screen is big enough for nymphs to squirm through without much effort and I would like to potentially move it, especially now that there are two of them, so that I don't have several hundred babies climbing my walls...

Laying one on top of the other

A slightly happier topic this time, haha. My wild-caught Chinese decided this morning to lay me a huge ooth. She's already laid one in her tank which made me roll my eyes as it was laid in the screen top. A good bit of it was poking through on the other side and it was pretty firmly embedded...
