What can I do to improve this mesh lid on my new vivarium?

You are an absolute lifesaver. Thank you so much for taking all that time to help me out, it means a lot. Daisy will appreciate it. :)

What can I do to improve this mesh lid on my new vivarium?

Thank you! I read through that, though and it seems not to have anything about as big of a space I have and I want to know specifically what type of mesh (like brand or item name) with smaller holes that's high quality and where to buy it because I'm probably buying online. Thank you again...

What can I do to improve this mesh lid on my new vivarium?

Hi there! It's been a while but I'm in need of some advice: My female orchid mantis has grown up in a vivarium (a beautiful PanTerra's Box) all her life but now that she's an L6 she's starting to outgrow it. So in preparation for her next molt, I'm making my own bigger one. I bought a Zoo Med...

    Mantids disapearing

Huh, I wasn't aware one could safely keep mantises in communal enclosures past L3. I know ghosts are more docile, though. And I'm not at all a professional. Hope you find them all!

Doing a Q&A on Mantis Care at a big event tomorrow! Would love some input!

Hiya MantidForum folks! So I'm going to be doing a Q&A tomorrow (Saturday) at a large event dedicated to arthropods at a science museum*. There will be lots of kiddos there and I'll have my pet mantis with me. Don't worry, she'll be safely in her enclosure with very little travel time and...

    L4 Sexing of Orchid Celebrity

Oh wow, I didn't even notice that! Seems I'm learning something new every day! Thank you so much!

    Mantis never drinking?

Seconding Rick! Just make sure your feeders have enough distilled water to drink and you should be fine! Sometimes I add a tiny drop of distilled water when I feed mine honey from my hand but again, if your feeders are drinking water you're all good.  (I wouldn't directly spray, personally--I...

Ugh, sorry they're so blurry! Pictures on my iPhone 5s sometimes just show up terribly on desktop.

    Ghost dying

My ghost male lived about a month and a half after adulthood, so you definitely gave him a good life. So sorry about your loss.

    L4 Sexing of Orchid Celebrity

Hi folks! It's been awhile. My life's been crazy hectic. As some of you know, my late pet Giant Asian Mantis became a minor celebrity in my state and now a new orchid mantis, Daisy, is carrying on her legacy. HOWEVER, I'm unsure about Daisy's sex. My last orchid mantis I could tell by L3 that...

ISO Orchid Nymph (I know it's a long shot....)

So, I was expecting to have an orchid nymph by now since I still miss my last mantis, Sybil. I bought a nice enclosure for the nymph that's sitting empty. I realize that there's been a shortage of the species as of late, but if anyone happens to have an L2-L3 orchid, message me!  Thank you for...

    Friendly mantis

Aww, that's so sweet! I'm on my third mantis and they do, indeed, all seem to have their personalities. My male ghost wasn't very fond of being held, so I kept it to a minimum. My female orchid was just like yours---seemed to really want to get out--not to escape, but just to sit on my...

    Sarah K (PanTerra Pets)

She is absolutely wonderful! Love my giant Asian mantis I got from her and she also has great feeders/supplies. Very responsive and kind.

How's the Orchid Mantid for a complete novice?

My second mantis was an orchid and I had her for about ten months. Obviously I'm not an expert yet, but if you're getting the hang of your beginner species, are very dedicated/willing to learn, and are really drawn to the orchid species, I'd consider it. I had almost no issues with her (even...

Something is moving inside my mantis

Oops, this is old, sorry! Hope everything's okay!

Something is moving inside my mantis

I have a giant asian mantis as well and can confirm that this is just the way it looks when they digest. Kind of icky, but also pretty fascinating. You can watch their 'necks' when they eat and see the food going down too.

WTB Cute L3 Female with Personality!

Yes, I know this sounds silly, but I just lost my orchid mantis whom I raised from an L2 and had for 11months. She was rather tame and 'friendly' (she'd crawl on easily and loved eating honey off my fingers/hand. I know there's no replacing her, but it's been lonely in my apartment and I'd like...

Orchid hasn't mated, but when should she have an ooth?

Unfortunately she passed yesterday. I did what I could and got her some succulents with smooth leaves and a few sticks + ordered a new enclosure, but the latter didn't come in time. I think she somehow knew she wouldn't pass them and seemed to want to spend a lot of time out on my hand eating...

Orchid hasn't mated, but when should she have an ooth?

This is her enclosure (picture taken two weeks ago right after misting and when I was still bumping her temperature up)  Should I put a stick in there or will that lower her mobility too much? Again, I'm not sure what kind of plants or green leaves to put in there.  I've started feeding her...

Orchid hasn't mated, but when should she have an ooth?

X_x Still no ooth and a voracious appetite. She seems very active and healthy. What kind of real plants are safe for me to put in there?
