Any Books/Pamplets Recommended

As stated in a previous post, I purchased a mantis kit for my grandson, but when they hatched today, my daughter brought them to my house, but my grandson gets visitation. (Not sure what she was expecting....but apparently not that).

Anyway, I am hooked and even if my grandson loses interest, I'm hooked.

So now, I realize how much I don't know and need to catch up. I'm not even sure what kind of mantids we have, but I'm sure I'll find out as they grow. Can anyone recommend any books or guides? Its gonna be a rough couple of months.

Go to http://www.bugsincyberspace.com/ which is the site of our "root administrator" Peter, and go to the book section and buy Praying Mantids Keeping Aliens, which happens to be by another administrator, Orin. It will not only tell you everything you need to know, but a lot of things you didn't even know to ask about!

Exactly what Phil said. Do you have a picture of the hatched Ooth (egg case)? A species can often be identified by the Ooth it came from. With Mantid kits for gardens, generally they will be Chinese or European Mantids.

Is your daughter prepared to pay support? Even though she didn't want to have the babies and may feel entrapped she is still responsible

That is a good start point the book is good for someone new. You can also browse this site and get all the info you need.
