I was just tending to my herd of Idolomantis nymphs today when I noticed another of my ootheca was in the process of hatching! I love seeing them crawl out:)

Wow you got a lot of little ones! Congrats on another successful ooth hatch. Waiting on a boxer ooth myself

Thanks guys, I'm having a lot of fun with mantids. It's really hard to resist the urge to get more, but since I have over a hundred now I'm gonna try to cool it for now. I just spent a bunch o bucks on some good sized colonies of wax worms, horn worms, silkworms and BSFL, and ordered 10lbs of silkworms chow. Between feeders oothecae and containers I spent lets just say, more than I'd like to admit to..  but it's all worth it if my babies are happy!

Which type of boxer are you hatching Connor?

Wow a lot of feeders lol! I'm sure your babies are loving it.

Im actually hatching three ooths atm. A stagmomantis carolina, a brunners ooth and the boxer(otomantis scutigera). The first two are set to hatch in a couple months but the O. Scutigera is supposed to start hatching this weekend although it could take longer. I also have more stagmomantis ooths about to be laid.

Yeah, Serle. These guys are so small! I might just feed them springtails for now cause it looks like the melanogaster's could eat the tiny nymphs...heh

Connor, goodluck with those scutigera:)

Thanks! If you're looking for springtails or tiny little bugs take a bucket and swing it in the grass; you'll catch all sorts of little bugs. Of course assuming your ground isn't frozen over yet.

Those Mio's are very tenacious , they'll catch the melanogasters easily .  I've even fed Hydei to them after a week , about the same size as they are ..........  S
