Do the poly fabric lids work fine for mantises to hold onto while they molt?

They work fine, but eventually you'll need to get a lid with mesh. You can also DIY and remove the fabric and replace with window screen cut to fit. It will provide more ventilation which you'll need as your mantis grows unless you have a species which requires higher humidity levels.
