Well, that's true. However, what are the chance of that male being R. taprobanae? We can mostly find R. valida, R. basalis and R. stalii in Europe. All 3 species have a well developed shield. In US we also have R. fusca but it appearance it looks more like Pnignomantis medioconstricta with relatively small shield.
There may be a few others with no or just a little shield (in the case of R. fusca). The thing is in Europe it is not illegal (Correct me if I am wrong.) to import mantises from other countries. Mireillevdw where did you get this male "Rhombodera"?

 
R extensicollis has a small shield though, but are very rare in culture with only one person breeding, this is his first generation, excellently large Rhombodera.
