I have two mantises - Betty (fully grown) and LT (Little Tiger) who was a wee thing I found in my basil plant. Both are WC Carolina mantises. I took them in during September and they're in critter cages from Petsmart.
This being my first experience with mantises, I've had some trials and tribulations.
LT had a bad molt a couple of months ago. He/she got stuck in the skin and I had to get tweezers to remove the skin from the back legs. This resulted in deformed back legs with a "U" shape in the middle of on. I got on here, did some research on humidity and decided to move LT to a 5 gallon aquarium that I had. I sprayed the inside of the cage to boost the humidity. This helped straighten the back leg a little bit over the next 24 hours but still unusuable. LT still was able to hunt but it was a little special to watch.
However this morning, I came downstairs and saw that LT had a successful molt and is using BOTH back legs. Didn't have time to see if I could sex easily but suspect a female.
So thanks - this forum helped this happen.
