What is this thing??

What is this green thing in my male Giant Asian mantis’s enclosure? It was not there last night. He seems very interested in it, but not touching it. I’m kind of grossed out, so I haven’t touched it. My guy is a bit over a year old...is this a sign of illness?

My guess is that your guy is actually a female and she has produced her first ooth.
