Huge Box of Excelsior for fruit fly cultures, etc.

Hi, I have a huge box of excelsior that will probably make enough fruit fly cultures to last a lifetime. I bought a big 6 lb box and have used very little of it (see attached pictures). However, when I did use it, it worked great for my fruit fly cultures and new born mantids, etc.  I have an...

(Pnigomantis medioconstricta) Fresh Adult Male Double Shield

Hi Everyone, I have 2 adult male double shields. One molted to adult today, the other one about 2 weeks ago. I don't have any females so if someone needs some males, we can make a deal where I send you the males and you pay for shipping only. If an ooth hatches, then you send me an ooth and I...

Thanks Rick, I was thinking that. Oh well, I guess I'll never know. I probably should have remated her.

    ooth disection

Hi Mike, Thanks for the input. These ooths are very old now, about 7 months old so I'm sure they are all dried up now. I was wondering if opening them up now would tell me anything. I was just curious if it was something I did wrong or would they never had hatched anyway.

    ooth disection

Hello everyone, About 8 months ago, I mated a pair of African mantids (Sphdromantis Lineola). The first ooth was laid about a month later and it hatched about 5 weeks after that. A huge hatch of 350 nymphs. A month after the first ooth was laid, a 2nd was laid and a 3rd about a month after...

Fruit Flies Enclosing at the Bottom

In general: crawling too high, too much humidity. At bottom, too dry.

Mantidforum members, I need your help

Sorry, I don't have any of those species and only have nymphs right now. But if you change your mind and want Lineola, Limbata, and Sinensis nymphs, you can have some and you don't have to return them. Garin

    Was gone for awhile =)

WELCOME BACK BUDDY!! How long do I have to sit on my thumb? Starting to get a bit sore. I know my emails were annoying but it does hurt my feelings that you called me a loser, hahaha! Man, you crack me up!

Update on the Limbata ooths: All hatched well! Great breeder and highly recommended. Thanks!

    Melanogaster problem

The maggots should not be climbing on the lid and trying to get out. If this is happening, there is too much humidity in the container. When I first started culturing fruit flies, I didn't have any excelsior and I ran out of coffee filters. So I used shredded cardboard. The problem is that the...

    Budwing lifespan

Wow, I have never heard of anyone having a mantis live that long. That is amazing. Sorry about your loss.

    great surprise...

Maybe that was it, it's very strange. I'm going to try another batch soon and this time try to keep the net cube in a higher humidity room to see if that makes any difference.
