    One big question

Did you clean their cages with something different? What kind of water or food are they getting? If it's tap water is there a boil water warning in your area?

    Don't get excited!...buuut

Sorry for the late reply! Here he is!!! He ate a fat roach a couple days after his molt; guts and all! He also showed an impressive defense posture to the plastic tub the roach was in.

    Occasional shivers

I saw my mantis did this throughout the day after he molted. And the day before he molted his whole head would spasm on occasion. Mandibles, antenna, and the head itself.

I think so? I'm still not able to identify instars. He's molted once for us about 3, maybe 4 weeks ago?  No molting as of right now. It's so frustrating for me to wait! He'll inch around and then just not move for hours, not even when I look into the side of the tank. And I'm like, "Oh maybe...

    Preserving in Resin

I haven't done this as I have yet to lose a mantis as well. Have you looked into tutorials or DIYs?

    Greetings from Maryland!

Hey welcome! You're in the right spot! I think they're pretty cool too. They're like my gateway-bug, opening me up to looking into other insects as well!

    Don't get excited!...buuut

I just set up a time lapse video with my ipad. I think it's going to be today. He hasn't moved in a couple hours and he has some dark line running up the middle of his back. Edit: I flashed a light on him and that dark line is just a shadow.

He was acting kind of shady the other day and was barely moving on a very low leaf. I was worried he was going to molt there, which would have resulted in a mismolt. So I...

    Holy orange!

Turns out that big piece was a giant ball of carrot. I may have to take carrot off the menu just because it was so dry it was hard in the cockroaches digestive tract.

    Holy orange!

He dropped it on the cage haha

    Holy orange!

I may have to take carrots off the list. Jack doesn't seem to like the guts and is actively eating around them lol

    Hi from WA

Welcome! I also live in Washington! I didn't know having mantids was so popular here until I found out the hardware stores carry ooths every spring and summer
