    nomenclature pet peeves?

I work in entomology professionally... BSc, MSc, PhD, postdocs, pest control, biological control, R&D... I have to agree, nothing winds me up more than others in the hobby and real professionals (e.g. biological control companies, scientists/publications etc) who don't use capitals and...

    back leg mismoult

No, still probably 3 moults left - it's about 2ish inches now... so it DOES have moults left to use, it's just not easily able to hang - it hangs from its front two legs and the third middle one if it does and can't catch good easily as those legs are required to keep it upright. And what are...

    back leg mismoult

I'm wondering if anyone has had any success with 'assisting' mismoulted mantids to their next moult? Simply, a friend of mine has a sphod and his family were really interested in it and in 'meddling' they turned the enclosure on its side, restricting the space available to hang and moult...

    Necessary coupling time

I am more of a tarantula sort of person but have been keeping mantids all my life and never really bred them... ANYWAY... I have a couple sphods going at it right in front of me now and have been at it since 10am (so 5.5 hours SO FAR!) Perhaps Christian can answer or anyone with lots of...

Funky predatory true bug (assassin maybe?) with mantis-like front legs?

Many of the underwater Heteroptera are known to have raptorial forelegs (Belostomatidae, Nepidae, and Naucoridae)... but as you said this one was on land, it's most likely going to be the following two: Common name... (Family).... (SubF) Assassin bugs (Reduviidae) - Phymatinae Damsel bugs...

    Minicuk

I second that totally! I bought an ooth from him the other day! Good English communication (although I have no problems speaking French!), very helpful, informative and friendly and is always available! Package came very promptly and what I would liken to Fort Knox in packing! Can't speak more...

    [email protected] - aka *nickylee*

[email protected] - aka nicky lee I ordered a Chile Rose tarantula from him, it is now three weeks later and have not received the item. He said he sent it within the first three days of purchase and gave me a tracking number which I checked and today found out that it was FOR...

I have to say this guy is amazing! He posted virtually as soon as I paid and they got here in great condition and really fast considering he's in Germany! I got three ghost ooths for the price of two and they look healthy and fresh! Definitely a guy to do business with :)

    Uh..

http://www.spiderzrule.com/commonspidersusa.htm I would guess at the common housespider the way you described it... but watch out because the brown widows have a similar *large body, small head, patterned back* description

    How To Breed Crickets??

Crickets always die... not much you can do about it... Just make sure they have enough space, enough fresh veg (as crickets, like superworms/ morios) will eat their friends just to get a bit of moisture Also, one thing i've found (particularly with locusts, but also applies here) - don't have...

    How To Breed Crickets??

One thing you have to watch out for though (more than anything I've found) is mould... carboard, oatmeal, vegetables on moist soil without much ventillation easily leads to mould Just make sure you change it regularly :)

    caterpillar hatchlings

Best idea for foodplants, yes, rose is fine, but other (common) food plants include willow, grasses, hawthorn, oak, birch, pine species depending on where you are)... Try these to start with... but if they're on the side of a building, only a guess can be made... can you descibe the eggs? what...

    Fish Tycoon

ah yeah, I played this... I think I got to 3 magic fish - I just couldn't be bothered to work out the 'genetics' between them all to get all the special fish - fun game, insaniquarium is fun too which I've also completed... If you like these though, try 'Ant Wars' - you have to build a colony...

    NEW LIVEFOOD!!!

I'll have to see - it's supposed to take just over a month to complete it's lifecycle - from egg to egg - I think like all cultures it would have to be left a while for the moths to gather sufficient numbers though - seems less fatty than the waxmoths so if we can use them , why not this! I'll...

    Cameron Highlands project

Well, as part of my Applied Entomology degree I'll be spending two months in Malaysia (specifically the Cameron Highlands) identifying species that could be beneficial controls for the DBM. However, since it is a reasonably simple survey, I might have lots of free time :D :D:D Does anyone have...

LOL! - As it hppens, my male escaped again today... crawled across the floor behind me, under the door and into my mum's study while she was on the computer... Literally hit the ceiling when I pulled the chair away and it was sitting right under her! :D Luckily i have an understanding set of...
