    female chinese mantid

Found a female chinese mantid, I believe. She is very large and healthy looking, but her abdomen looks like it has 'blown' out at the right lateral abdomen. I attached some photos to show this. It has hardened and she is still functioning, just clumsy. any help would be greatly appreciated...

Breeding question, & fogging in neighborhood

Can different species mate with each other? I think I have a female adult chinese mantis, I found her in Maryland. She is smaller than the male though and she is much lighter and vivid green with smaller wings (the same color) with a darker single spot on each wing. Is there a different name for...

    Wild mantis nymph sick

I found an adult Carolina mantis in the swimming pool, dead. I took him out and closely examined to notice that it's abdomen was still moving, and there were little larvae crawling out from it's anus. Then less than an hour later I found a nymph upside down on the underside of my umbrella. He...

How to tell a mantis is done molting

How do I know if my mantis has completed molting! I didn't bet to see it happen, he literally doubled in size over night and has wings now. He was upside down when I found him hanging from a stick for a long time but I don't see the skin anywhere. I was thinking maybe the crickets in the cage...

    My Mantis

This is a photo of one of my alien friends. He is on my pillow next to my head board that has a decal of a mantis I put on there a while ago. I thought it was a cool photo. He seemed interested with it. Anyway, I was posting this as hope that maybe someone could help me identify him as what...

    Idolo...touchdown

This is so cool! So this is their attack pose? Do they actually attack humans after doing this? My mantis has struck at me accidentally before but it didn't hurt. I am new to all of this so sorry if this is a silly question.
