    Seeking later instar mantises

I'm looking for some later instar mantises (L5+ preferred). I'm interested mainly in spiny flower mantises and shield mantises. May also be interested in indian flower and giant species.  I'm located in northern California, pm me if you have anything you think I might be interested in!

    Male or female?

Gamera molted to L5 a while ago, and is finally big enough for me to try and sex. But I'm not sure/just can't tell! Crossing my fingers they are female and think they might be, what do you think?

    Temporary emergency food?

So I'm not going to have any fruit flies for a few days while the ones I have pupate, and the others I've ordered come in. What can I feed my nymphs until then? I've heard of people feeding banana, will that suffice?  I want to stay away from pinhead crickets, due to all the problems I've heard...

    Already made my first mistake

Welp, I was bound to make a mistake at some point, but I didn't think it would be this soon. My hierodula venosa molted last night, but I didn't notice when I went to feed it a few minutes ago. I take my mantises out of their deli cups and place them into a much smaller container for easy...

    (USA) Seeking many mantises

I'm still on the lookout for giant asians/giant mantises in general, but I am now on the search for flower mantises. This includes hymenopus coronatus, creobroter species, pseudocreobotra, etc. Will also consider rhombodera species, but I prefer the previous listed. I'm located in Livermore...

    Blepharopsis mendica care?

I'd love to be able to get a blepharopsis mendica, but I've read that they need higher temps. I don't have any more room to hook up a heat lamp, but my room stays pretty warm most of the time because of my bearded dragon tank. Do they absolutely need a heat source like a lamp or mat, or would my...

    Newbie questions

Since I'll be getting at least one mantis next week, I thought I would ask some questions I've had before they arrive. Most of them are related to molting, haha. 1. What do you do when a mantis is about to molt? I've read from one place that said you mist them, and another that said you don't...

(USA) Looking for giant asians/giant mantids

As the title says, I am looking for a giant asian or other giant mantis species. I don't really have a preferred age, but I do greatly prefer females. I'm located in Livermore, California.  Thanks for looking!

    Setting up my mantis vivariums

Today I got to start setting up my mantis vivs! Left will be for an orchid, right will be for a giant asian (hence more greenery). The moss on the branches/logs is real, and so is the fern in the right viv! I got them off ebay, PM me if you want to know the seller since these are very nice and...

    Your favorite hygrometer?

I asked this question on a bearded dragon forum, but figured I would ask here as well. I'm looking for a reliable and accurate hygrometer, but can't seem to find one. Which is your favorite/do you use?

    Glorious scarab care?

Shot in the dark, but I thought I'd ask if anyone had any knowledge of keeping glorious scarabs ( Chrysina gloriosa ). I can't seem to find any info on their care. If I get one It'd be a L2 larvae. Thanks if anyone can help me out here!

    Just bought my first mantis!

I had originally intended on buying an orchid, though because I couldn't find one for sale, I settled on eventually getting a giant asian. As luck would have it, I ended up finding out usmantis.com has some L3 orchids for sale! Quickly snatched one up. My nymph kit I ordered will be here today...

    My Mantises

Starting off my thread with some pictures I took years ago when I caught and kept two mantises here in California! Unsure of the species (California mantis lol?).

    Hi from California!

Hi everyone! I go by Zuzu online, and I'm new to mantis keeping! Some years ago I caught and kept two mantises here in California, which is where my avatar comes from. I'll probably post the rest of the photos I have of them in another part of the forum (which includes some cool threat display...
