I was only stating that mantids and roaches are related in the bug world and that people have stated being allergic to roaches. I was not saying you kept roaches!! :tt2:

You can have airborne allergies to invertebrates if their proteins become airborne. This is usually the result of their exoskeleton or molts becoming tiny particulates and getting everywhere--this shouldn't be an issue if you clean regularly.

It is unlikely your wife's allergies are from the mantis unless you're allowing dead insects and exoskeletons to accumulate. If she were truly allergic, she would get rashes and hives from coming into contact with the mantids.

*Just tell her not to put the mantis in her mouth!*

Hmm in all seriousness, allergens have to somehow become airborne for her to be reacting to them. Since mantises only molt and don't change their skin continuously, I don't see the chances of that as very high. Like Ranitomeya said, as long as you keep the enclosures clean she will not react even if she's allergic to them. Could it be seasonal? It's a little late in spring but depending on where you live a lot of seasonal allergens (flower pollen) and such are coming up.

I kinda figured. Using "I'm allergic" is an easy way to "justify" avoiding what you don't like. What happened to marital compromise?
Lol don't you get it? Asking him to get rid if them, that IS the compromise. Not compromising means just getting rid of them herself xD! Aye, I'm just fooling around.

In all seriousness though, she might be afraid of them and if she's uncomfortable around them it's probably better to let them go. Sorry to hear about that though.. hope you'll find good homes for the little ones!

You can always buy a couple native or established mantis species' ooths and place them in your garden xD Can't really complain when they're wild?
