I wish I had pictures of this, but last summer my husband and I were sitting under a live oak tree in our backyard at the table outdoors, and there was a little grass mantid walking along the table looking for something to eat. He picked up a piece of catepillar frass on the table to give it a try, and then decided it wasn't too good and flung it far off into the distance. We couldnt stop laughing.

Haha!! Great story!! My mantids will actually eat around the stomach contents of their feeder bugs and fling the nasty leftovers away from them. It's like they're saying, "Ew! I told you I don't eat plants! You can't fool me by putting it in the middle of my dinner!"

That's hilarious... This guy must have been new to the world to give frass a chance! hahha It was obviously nothing he wanted upon tasting!!

Lol.

He must have been thinking, "Wow, this tastes like ...." :p

(yeah, corny, I know. )

Well, I had a word there with a c but I guess it's not allowed? lol

Some of my mantids have tried to eat some strange things, but to see it in nature has got to be cool.
