    Breathing mantid

This wasn't a silly question, it was a very good one to be honest. You can never learn too much. :D

    Like a leg of lamb!

They're only found in "New Forest", wherever that is. :P Linkage: http://www.ukbap.org.uk/ukplans.aspx?ID=216

    Like a leg of lamb!

You do have a species(Cicadetta montana). :P Although, considering its extreme rarity and the fact it is endangered, I wouldn't feed them to your mantids. I should get some sleep, starting to be a know-it-all. <_<

    Like a leg of lamb!

I love cicadas, we have a species here that makes a very nice song. Males are probably not a very filling food, though. They're more or less hollow(pretty much living resonance chambers).

    Non-toxic Superglue?

Probably, just avoid the 'anti-fungus' or 'anti-bacterial' kinds. Those are great for bathrooms, not so much for keeping animals.

    Atlas Beetles

I've looked into beetle before, but gave up when I learned that the species I wanted I would need a permit for. Anyway, here are a few links I've accumulated. http://www.naturalworlds.org/scarabaeidae/ http://www.naturalworlds.org/goliathus/ http://www.angelfire.com/ns/RhinocerosBeetles/...

I'll do that then. Thanks for all the help! :D

    Found a mantis nymph

She climbed down and sat on the leaves for a bit, so I tried to feed her and she grabbed the fly instantly and ate it. Guess it was a false alarm. I'm planning on feeding once every three days, is this alright? I'm not going to breed her(although if I find a male I'll let them...

    Found a mantis nymph

And now she's walking around and looking at me when I look at her. Maybe she's not molting?

    Found a mantis nymph

She moved over to the side of the lid and is now holding on to the glass with her middle pair. :)

    Non-toxic Superglue?

Cyanoacrylate gel/liquid is safe once dry. At least it is for marine aquariums, which can house some of the most sensitive invertebrates on the planet, so I think it would be safe. The non-toxic stuff should be okay as well.

    Found a mantis nymph

Just the two back legs. EDIT: It would be on the safe side not to disturb her for the next day or so, right?

    Found a mantis nymph

Yeah, I think so too. :) How can I tell if she's about to molt(Oh yeah, I think it's a girl, she has six segments)? She's hanging from her hindlegs from the top of the cage, and the pictures of molting I've seen on here look like that. She also has a darker green line on her back where she...

    New to non-crustacean arthropods

Hello all. :) I'm 15, and from New York. I like long walks on the beach and staying out in the rain. I've been keeping different aquatic crustaceans, mainly shrimp, for a few months. I had a large colony of Neocaridina denticulata sinensis "red cherry", as well as Palaemonetes paludosus...

    Found a mantis nymph

Yep, it's a Chinese. Two black marks on the inner side of each foreleg. That's good, I was planning on getting a Chinese anyway. :) The tank: (excuse the messy hermit tank on the other side) I love how I put in the fake ivy thinking s/he'd feel safer being able to hide in it, but...

    Yet more I diabolica photos

Wow! Did she reach for it slowly or did you manage to catch the shot right at the moment she grabbed it?

    Found a mantis nymph

So you think it would be okay to keep him/her(I really need to figure that out)? Yay! So, damp paper towel at the bottom of the enclosure is necessary, correct? Any tips for a new mantis keeper? EDIT: I just remembered that my uncle used to breed them when they were sparse around...

    Found a mantis nymph

Well, my sister just ran screaming out of her room a few minutes ago. A mantis nymph had climbed in through the window and was perched on the ceiling above her bed. I went in and just picked it up. It is green, a little over two inches in length and slender; your stereotypical mantis. I don't...
