    Ooth gestation periods

Hey Phil, indeed we did - and I think I STILL owe you an ooth in return. Here's to hopeing that this isn't yet another breeding frustration, so I can actually repay a debt! You're a funny one, aren't you? :P All knowing indeed. More like all-bungling. :D Good Gravy, Kam! Now THAT is...

    Ooth gestation periods

Thanks guys. I have another two weeks before I should start expecting anything, and four before I get anxious. Warp, I just might do that....in between the kids, the wife, the house, the job...well...don't hold your breath. But who knows? Maybe by next Christmas. I didn't want to duplicate...

    Ooth gestation periods

Hi Guys, I'm waiting anxiously to see if my ghost ooths will hatch right now....and I wonder if anyone knows the typical gestation period of these ooths? Then, as I was thinking about it....does anyone know a reference to a chart that lists the gestaion period of ooths of mantids in general...

Bring your mantis to college day!

I've brought them/had them delivered to work a couple of times. I get varying reactions from "so cool" to running in terror. I kinda like to chase the latter.... I'm mean that way. :D

    North American Mantids

Hi Deby, Your project looks great! Are you still making edits to it? If so, I did find one of my own pet-peeve in your first sentence: There is no such thing as "very unique." It is either Unique (one of a kind) or simply unusual. Other than that INCREDIBLY knit-picky comment, I think it's...

    Getting them from Shopko?

Sure, those plants are usually fine when provided the right care. Just make sure you don't get ones that look like they're already toast. When you bring them home, though, make sure to completely flush the pots with clean, purified water. Most of those stores don't know not to use tap...

    jail break

Now I HAVE to ask - just where on the shirt was the ooth laid? I'm trying to picture the hole....

    Obsession

@ Deby - yeah. The Popas are wierd sometimes. I have seven - six of them happily eat crickets...but I had one not eating, and just getting thinner & thinner. I put a moth in there and it was gone lickity split. The darn fusspot just doesn't like crickets! it would rather starve! Go...

How long can a mantis really live for?

I still have a female D. bolivari that hatched last spring (April? May?). She was mated twice, but has never laid an ooth, so I assume she's ooth bound....but she's still otherwise alive and kicking. Rick is right about the temparate species, though....I have the new hatched nymphs from...

    OMG!

I read this and just laughed and laughed. I'm so bad. :P

    Odd discharge after mating?

Looks like Hibiscusmile & Sporeworld were right! She did the same weird thing I mentioned above two more times, then produced a big, beautiful ooth. So I guess it's all good.

    Odd discharge after mating?

ok, thanks for the replies. I'll keep an eye on her, and see if anything developes.

    Odd discharge after mating?

Hey All, My recently mated ghost did something odd - though maybe normal. She glued what looks like the very beginnings (very tiny bit) of an ooth (whatever the ooth fluid is called) to a stick....and that's it....didn't actually produce an ooth. It's a really small amount - but I'm almost...

    Mega Mantis

Good Gravy, Yen! That thing is HUGE! Skinny, but still. I think I remember the previous time you posted this pic. Do you still raise these guys? Does that keep the neighborhood kids off your lawn? :P

    Buggin Luv

I was always in to insects, spiders, and other creepy-crawlies...As well as other non-standards interests. I have a rather large carnivorous plan collection, too (and the Sarracenia in the greenhouse are blooming now. GORGEOUS!). I really got into mantids as a kid - we vacationed on Fire...

    WTB older A. multicor nyphs

Hi All, I had one of these little girls, sub adult, I think....and she somehow wound up under my daughter's foot (quite an accident, and she felt REALLY bad). So does anyone have any spare sub, or sub-sub adult A. multicolor they would be willing to part with for a few dead presidents? And I...

beginner advice: low vs high land

Hey Jad, Yes, those two will do nicely. As well as N. sanguinea, N x 'Miranda' (if you have room - he a big one. Yes, he. Sterile, but worth growing if you have space), N. ventricosa x truncata is also large, but easy.... That should get you started!
